Driving #powerof657 forwards

The Muscle Help Foundation (MHF) is a small family charity delivering transformational experiences called Muscle Dreams for children and young people (8-28yrs) with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and other allied neuromuscular conditions. The goal is to deliver 657, one for every muscle in the body!

  • Need

    Need

Every experience is different, but its impact is always the same: improved confidence, greater self-esteem, unforgettable memories and lasting friendships. Despite extremely limited resources, as of July 2018, 278 Muscle Dreams have been delivered, leaving 379 to go. On average, MHF delivers between 25-30 Muscle Dreams per year. Whilst the reach of the charity continues to grow, we desperately need additional support to help reduce an ever-growing wait-list, currently at 83 unique nominations.

    Solution

MHF’s point of difference is rooted in its deep understanding, specialist insight & its ability to provide a 1:1 tailored approach that’s personal to each beneficiary & their family. We take considerable time to give emotional support, practical advice & guidance to reassure beneficiaries and their families but also give real hope. The driving force behind MHF is Founder and CEO Michael McGrath who himself has Muscular Dystrophy. Ultimately more help & financial resource will mean more impact.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Drive #powerof657 forwards by delivering more Muscle Dreams and by default, growing MHF's impact.

    Activities

» If successful, funds will allow MHF to research, plan and execute more Muscle Dreams, meaning more impact, more hope & more lives being changed.

    What success will look like

Using a range of tools that underpin our offline & online footprint ie. social media, PR, news updates. MHF punches well above its weight in terms of its online footprint.

  • Impact

    Impact

From improved confidence, greater self-esteem, and an increased sense of hopefulness to a powerful shared identity that connects families, giving a platform to share knowledge, memories and establish lasting friendships... MHF tracks & evaluates every Muscle Dream experience. Tragically over the past 14 months, the charity has lost 6 beneficiaries, 4 under the age of 18yrs. News updates across social channels (Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn) plus ongoing quantitative & qualitative analysis.

    Risk

Whilst ongoing project evaluation is key, the primary risk is around not having the financial means to reduce the wait-list. MHF is trying hard to identify new sources of funding, for example by building capacity and brand loyalty through its growing Muscle Warrior tribe of fundraisers and also via its Volunteer, Ambassador and growing beneficiary network. We're also looking to attract new corporate partners by for example posting relevant LinkedIn updates focusing on partnership benefits.

    Reporting

We plan to provide an impact evaluation which will clearly show the benefits of funding. SPECIAL NOTE: in academically validating our impact, we urge donors to read the report produced by the University of Hertfordshire (reflecting 6yrs of data); accordingly, our CEO would be happy to present this.

  • Background

    Location

The Muscle Help Foundation is based in Buntingford in East Hertfordshire. However, Muscle Dreams take place across the UK. SPECIAL NOTE: the charity is about to publish in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire a detailed evaluation report that academically validates its impact - this comprehensive report contains socio-economic, demographic & historical data; pls ask to speak with MHF's CEO for further information about this report.

    Beneficiaries

For those with Muscular Dystrophy the degenerative condition is not just a daily challenge, it is a daily preoccupation which so often leads to loss of hope, depression and ultimately for many despair, anger, a sense of hopelessness, helplessness and isolation. The charity works hard to bring alive its vision of hope, inspiration, and empowerment, enabling children and young people (8-28yrs) with Muscular Dystrophy to come together.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

With limited provision in children's communities, MHF offers real hope. Rooted in family values, MHF gives emotional support, practical advice & guidance to families (directly from its CEO & his wife) who personally host & deeply understand the adversities that families face. The CEO himself has MD and is a full-time electric wheelchair user; it is this combination that differentiates MHF from any other charity in the broad wish-fulfillment space.
