  • Need

A large number of students in North Srilanka have been severely affected by a civil war lasting over 30 years. In extremely underprivelaged areas, students are unable to purchase the basic educational equipment required to obtain basic qualifications. The financial support provided by this charitable project will aim to reduce the financial stress on the students and their families that have been most affected by the civil war

Using the funds raised from this funraising event, we hope to purchase various items that will help students across North Srilanka. These range from basic materials such as stationary equipment to larger items such as textbooks and school uniforms.
The majority of funds will be allocated to the highest performing students in order to encourage them to achieve further academic success, whilst also incentivising educational achievement amongst other students.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Improve the literacy rate in North Srilankan schools

» Funding and organising special teaching facilities for students that will benefit momst from these academic interventions.
» Financing the purchase of educational materials for students that are achieving academic success but lack resources for furthering their education.

    What success will look like

There will be regular exams every 3 months that monitor the performance of students across time, which will indicate whether students have improved after our intervention

    Aim 2

Improve the participation rate for students in North Srilanka

» Providing educational materials for students that are achieving academic success but lack resources for furthering their education.

    What success will look like

We will frequently monitor the attandence of students and check to see if attendance has improved after our intervention

  • Impact

We hope that this intervention being done at an early stage of students' academic progress will lead to large improvements in access to further education. Ultimately, we hope that the number of highly qualified young adults will increase in the long run.

One of the ways we will demonstrate this is to keep in contact with the students receiveing the financial support and monitor their long term academic achievements. In particular, we will look to see how many students enter university.

A primary risk of the project is that students who receive financial support are unable to efficiently use the resources to further their academic progress.

After the intervention, we aim to monitor the students progress and re-allocate funds that are not being used appropriately. Prior to allocating resources, we will also communicate with students and their families to check if the funds will actually improve students progress

We aim to provide frequent email updates to donors regarding the current status of the project and the progress that has been made in schools.
