Home for Christmas
Christmas is hard if you are homeless.
Emmaus Oxford is open every day. With Home for Christmas your donation will make sure everyone in our community gets to celebrate.
Your gifts will pay for homeless people to see friends and family, or to celebrate Christmas with their friends at Emmaus.
December 2018 - January 2019
Charity information: Emmaus Oxford
Home for Christmas gives homeless people practical help, providing food, safety and warmth throughout the Christmas period.
It also addresses the loneliness and isolation which many homeless people feel at Christmas through activities within our community for people who have no friends or family.
Home for Christmas works in two ways.
Firstly the homeless people who live in our community have a safe, warm place to be with others if they have no one else.
And secondly if people have family and friends to visit but money is a barrier, Home for Christmas helps people to travel.
Provide food for all homeless Companions at Emmaus Oxford throughout December
Activities» Work with local food banks and shops to get nutritious and filling food for Companions and staff to prepare and serve.
What success will look like
We will demonstrate success by providing food for everyone who lives in our community.
Fund travel expenses and activities for homeless Companions to visit family or enjoy themselves.
Activities» Pay for approved travel expenses for all Companions to visit friends and family.
» Pay for activities for Companions in the community over Christmas, with any excess going to their holiday fund.
What success will look like
We will record how many people use travel funding to visit friends and family, and ask them about the difference that has made.
Being homeless often brings a feeling of deep social isolation. By being part of the Emmaus Oxford community, living and working together, we show people that they are accepted and wanted. With help from our staff, homeless people can address the reasons why they became homeless and work on repairing their relationships.
- Risk 1: Not enough people want to access our services
Emmaus Oxford is currently full and has a waiting list for places. On this basis we feel this risk is low and well-managed.
- Risk 2: Problems staffing our centre over Christmas
Emmaus Oxford opened its doors in 2009. Many of our staff have been here since then, and even when our office is closed over Christmas staff visit to see Companions. Additionally one member of staff is always on call. This risk is also low.
We will provide donors with details of how many people we have provided food and travel money for in December 2018. We will send feedback from our Companions about the difference this has made to them.

This project is based in Oxford, Oxfordshire.
Homeless men and women in Oxford will directly benefit from this project.
The wider community will benefit too. Emmaus Oxford provides housing and accommodation for homeless people, who stop claiming most benefits when they move to us. In this way we save public funds.
What we do works. In our last complete year 24 of our Companions started training, education or volunteering and 5 people moved into stable accommodation. Helping homeless people helps wider society.
Emmaus Oxford has been running for nearly 10 years. We are known and trusted in the homeless community in Oxford.
28 formerly homeless Companions currently live in our Community. We work with these people all year round and our staff take the time to build relationships.
This project will help make a better Christmas, but it will also contribute to lasting change for homeless people.
