Continual pain; muscle weakness; lack of balance; brain seizures. How would you cope? We enable severely disabled adults remain as independent as possible for as long as possible by providing specialist physio and fitness at subsidized rates. The NHS doesn’t provide treatment long term: we do.
Charity information: White Lodge Centre
The adults we support have permanent brain damage, Parkinson’s, MS. After a limited number of NHS sessions, it is then up to the individual to find and pay for their own treatment – despite their disability being permanent. To stay as mobile and independent as possible, highly specialist neurological therapy is needed on a long term basis. This is not only rare to find but also expensive.
No other organization within a 25 mile radius of White Lodge Centre, offers long-term physiotherapy and specialist gym sessions, all available from the one site, aimed at adults with long term neurological conditions. Individualised treatment programmes improve quality of life to those most in need. We subsidize our therapy and fitness sessions so they are accessible to all.

What success will look like
Success will be enabling over 100 severely disabled adults to have improved or maintained mobility.
This project will provide access to:
• specialist neurological physiotherapy at subsidized rates
We will demonstrate the success of this project by:
• monitoring the number of disabled adults booking physiotherapy sessions
• recording clients’ improved mobility (and independence). The Goal Attainment Scale is used - a recognised mathematical technique for quantifying the achievement of a patient’s individual goals, widely used within the NHS
White Lodge Centre subsidizes the physiotherapy and fitness sessions from its own fundraising. The main risk is not being able to raise sufficient funds. This risk has been dealt with by the White Lodge Centre CEO meeting regularly with the White Lodge Centre Chair of trustees and Head of Fundraising to review funds received.
Donors will be reported to through:
• White Lodge Centre website
• White Lodge Centre twice yearly newsletter
• Social media
• Centre Insider (Bi-monthly newsletter)

The physiotherapy and fitness sessions all take place under the one roof at our premises in Chertsey, Surrey. The spacious physiotherapy and fitness rooms contain a host of modern, specialist equipment including overhead hoists, treatment beds, an adapted treadmill and MOTOmeds - exercise bikes exclusively designed to be used whilst the client is seated either in a conventional chair or in their wheelchair.
Over 100 severely disabled adults living in Surrey and the surrounding areas will benefit from this project. All have long-term neurological disabilities causing muscle contraction and deterioration from conditions such as cerebral palsy, acquired brain damage, MS, Parkinson’s’ disease. Lack of mobility cruelly impairs day to day living.

Before coming to WLC it was a vicious circle. My condition means I have difficulty in walking so I walked less. This meant that muscles and joints stiffened so I was even less able to walk. This led to my confidence plummeting and I ended up not going out at all. WLC physio has changed all that.
