  • Need

Provide a basketball platform in the summer which they can continue being involved after. Weather thats being a player, official, coach. Want to bring unity to the communities across London. Trying to tackle boredom and a lack of physical activity in a number of the most deprived wards in London/England. In other words, we are tackling obesity, substance abuse, and well being. We will also be empowering young people and developing their time management, intellectual flexibility, and confidence.

This project will give participants easy access to participate while also creating a safe space for them to attend in their area for the time it is active. We have been doing this on a smaller scale with areas closer to us and now we want to reach other areas. We will bring people from different backgrounds together and form a common ground through the sport to have our participants grow as people.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To create a project that can be replicated and sustainable

» We will collaborate with other organizations like local basketball organizations and local council sports units.

    What success will look like

We will gather evidence through a platform called the Life Effectancy Questionnaire. This is in line with us trying to get the project oracle LEVEL 2 & 3. Pics & videos.

    Aim 2

    Get people physically active

» By promoting this event enough we gain a lot of participants for our events and can keep them all active through playing the sport.

    What success will look like

We us online platforms to record the number of participants at each venue and we will promote the events at each venue on all our social media platforms.

    Aim 3

Build sport and habit for a lifetime

» By promoting the sport in enough areas and getting people to go to our event we will inspire people to play beyond our events and participate at clubs

    What success will look like

By working with local clubs to integrate participants into the clubs and have them play beyond the scrimmages we host.

    Aim 4

Engage hard to reach communities and impoverished groups while still being inclusive

» By hosting these scrimmages in deprived wards and similar areas and making it affordable for them.

    What success will look like

By having the participants also list their addresses upon signing up with us so we can keep a record of where our participants are coming from.

    Aim 5

Get people qualified and upscaled for basketball positions

» We constantly promote the courses we offer to get people involved and we will have participants in the scrimmages sign up for qualification courses.

    What success will look like

LBA will be running a number of the mentioned courses throughout the summer. We will be offering participants from this project incentivized package.

  • Impact

It will bring about more people being involved in the sport of basketball. It will be demonstrated by the increase in participation in the sport and by the increase in the amount of officials and coaches that will become certified by Basketball England. It will also help deepen the existing basketball communities and even create new ones by opening up the youth to the sport.

A risk is potential lack of participation. We already have experience with dealing with this and have 2 main factors, 1, being marketing & 2, linking in with local organisation. The other risk is conflict among participants. We have a proven template which brings young people from all different postcodes, background, race, religions, ages and abilities together. We have been able to create successful neutral grounds for people from different areas to share a space together with no conflict.

We would craft a report on the impact of this project and data gathered through the Life Effectancy Questionnaire. We conduct interviews with preset questions to present physical evidence on our impact along with all the media we will be producing during the project. It will all be compiled together

  • Background

We will be traveling to 5 different locations across London. These areas are prominent BAME areas and deprived wards, including Lewisham, Westminster, Brent, Harrow (or Corydon) & Lambeth. Our young people from 11 years up, all race and religions, 50% are from BAME groups. We will being hosting participants from deprived wards but we are striving to be very inclusive and add participants from other areas in order to facilitate personal growth and interaction among all participants.
