  • Need

    School holidays can be the most challenging and stressful period of the year for many of our supported families. It can be hard to entertain children, tempers can fray and family dynamics can suffer as many don't have the means or the capacity to take their children on outings.
    For a significant number of children in the families we support poor diet is also a big issue as parents lack basic knowledge about nutrition. Many are on free school meals and during this period their health suffers.

    Our activities will provide a welcome respite to children who are living in stressful family situations –healthy food, fun outings to have moments of carefree quality time and gain new experiences, so essential for their development and well-being. For many of the children in our families, outings and group activities like these are few and far between, they are generally unaffordable or logistically problematic. Our aim is to narrow the achievement gap of low income children.

  • Impact

    We will use our monitoring and evaluation system to measure improvements in children's;
    1. Social skills - how well they form friendships and learn to play and interact with nature and the external environment.
    2. Emotional resilience - building their confidence in coping with new experiences.
    3. Physical wellbeing

    1. More children and families wanting to access trips than spaces available. We have in the past used first come first basis approach.
    2. Families not turning up on the day thereby wasted spaces. We ask for a deposit of £2 per space which is refundable. We also use discretion and waive the deposit for those families that are unable to afford that amount.
    3. Cost of coach hire increasing. We usually agree in advance and shop for best value.
    4. Stigma of free food, we ask them to help in cooking.

    Interim reporting to funders and use of social media. We regularly report on our website, twitter and Facebook current activities that are taking place in the organisation.
