Project information

We have a functioning school in rural Uganda with just over 200 children in attendance. We are a small and new charity and want to raise the funds to lay concrete flooring, clad and paint the school, put up wall supports, install guttering and a water tank and finally finish our store room.

  • Need

We are trying to give local children from the village a school which is welcoming inviting and safe. We want them to attend a building which is secure and reliable and where every day even during the dry season they will receive clean drinking water to keep their brains healthy and active.

By installing gutters and water tanks we will be able to harvest rain water and also store water for the dry season so every day our children will have clean and safe drinking water.
We want to install wall supports and cladding to the building of the school which will make it safe and secure from high winds and erosion which has slowly degraded the walls over the years.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Install wall supports and clad the school in concrete.

» Secure the walls to the roof of the school both in the inside and outside.
» Purchase cement and coat the inside and outside of the school twice with cement to add to the structural integrity.

    What success will look like

Success will be improved attendance at the school and no accidents in the coming years due to structural failure.

    Aim 2

    Install guttering and water tanks

» Purchase the necessary tanks and guttering and apply it around the roof to start harvesting rain water.

    What success will look like

Success will be improved performance of the children due to receiving daily water to help their level of concentration and energy.

    Aim 3

    Lay flooring for the school

» Purchase concrete, hire builders and lay a concrete floor inside of the 7 classrooms.

    What success will look like

Success will be happier staff and students. Staff will not teach in dust, children will not be sitting on a dusty and dirty ground and everyone’s level of comfort will be higher.

    Aim 4

Finish the store room and office.

» Purchase materials and put on the roof of the office and store room.
» Put in doors and windows to make the office and store room secure.
» Lay the concrete flooring for both buildings.

    What success will look like

Success will be healthier children, more attentive children and better results. If we have a store room which can lock we can store better foods and snacks for the students.

  • Impact

Longe term changes include a rise in the number of students in attendance with better end of year results. This will result in more children being offered places at high school.
Again in the future dry seasons the children and the community will have another water source which will be used for not only them but crops as well so in the future the farming yields should also see an increase which will feed children at the school and save on costs but also provide more income for the community.

The only risk to this project is funding. If the funding is available then all our projects are highly achievable. We have minimised this by holding fundraisers, finding new sponsors of children and trying to complete a deal with rotary clubs to secure more funding.

We will report to donors via email at the beginning the middle and on completion of any projects. We will provide pictures before, during and after completion also with a list of costs.

  • Background

Our district in Uganda is Mityana, sub district is Bulera and the village is Lusanja. It is a rural village where their is no access to electricity or clean water and 90% of the population here is living under the poverty line. The school was originally started by a lady in the community who passed away and it started to deteriorate which is why we decided to take it over and give it a face lift.

The children at the school will be he biggest beneficiaries. However the staff will also benefit greatly from a better environment and better food and water. The community will benefit from an extra water source, jobs and in the future the childrens education will secure them jobs which will in turn bring money back to the village.
