The Passage provides resources which encourage, inspire and challenge homeless people to transform their lives and end their homelessness. Support us to help people off the streets, back to work and into a new home.

  • Need


    Many people end up homeless on the streets of London without the support of family or friends to give them a hand up. With help and support many of the people we see are encouraged to face the difficult issues in their lives. We support people to address any health and emotional issues, looking realistically and positively at their employment prospects. They receive expert advice on housing and their finances. People can end their homelessness but only if the resources are provided.


    The project aims to help homeless people move away from rough sleeping permanently by providing a range of services. The project aims to build each persons confidence, prepare them to return to work, and supports them to find work or other training opportunities as well as giving the opportunity for further support even once employment has been found. The project will also address the barriers to finding accommodation and support people to find a home.

    Aim 1

    Assist people to manage their money and find work or training.


    » Help people overcome barriers to work by supporting them with welfare rights, supporting people to open bank accounts and provide debt advice.
    » Provide drop in computer access with IT based computer training ranging from IT skills to introduction to construction and hotel & catering
    » Assist clients to write their CVs, perform job search, apply for jobs and improve their job interview techniques.
    » Provide support for those moving into employment, including paying for initial accommodation, travel to work costs, clothing and individual mentoring

    What success will look like

    Help 125 people to end their homelessness by returning to full time employment; where needed pay for B&B accommodation until their first pay packet.

    Aim 2

    Provide realistic, appropriate advice and support for individuals seeking accommodation.


    » Staff assess clients’ needs in depth, discuss the options open to them and advise them on realistic possibilities and how to achieve them.
    » Assist clients who wish to return to their home areas to find help, support and accommodation away from London.
    » Where clients qualify assist them to find social housing or supported hostel accommodation as appropriate.
    » Help other clients to find private rented accommodation assist with moving in and seeking sources of funds for deposits, grants for furniture, etc.

    What success will look like

    Help 250 people access support away from the London area and help 250 people to find accommodation in London.

  • Impact


    The Passage is focused on delivering long term solutions for individuals; with the intention of breaking the cycle of homelessness completely for each person by helping them address a range of needs. We provide on-going support to people who have found new employment and accommodation through a mentoring scheme and our Home for Good project. This ensures that anyone who struggles still has access to support, hopefully preventing a return to rough sleeping.


    Our client group and their needs can change all the time, if the mixture of people we help have, on average, higher support needs this may reduce the number we can help. Changes to welfare benefits makes work more difficult but we are increasing our welfare benefits advice team. Government grants are also reduced each year, to deal with this we have increased voluntary income each year in order to maintain services, this is part of a five year plan to continue this trend.


    We will produce comprehensive feedback through our website plus email newsletters. We distribute an annual impact report showing our results for the year each summer.

  • Background


    We are in a large Victorian building close to Victoria Station. The building has been fully refurbished to provide modern facilities for our work. The refurbishment was completed in such a way to create a therapeutic environment for our clients.


    Homeless people presenting as street homeless in South Westminster and people living in insecure accommodation at immediate risk of homelessness.
