Swimming Pool Appeal

Our plan is to redevelop the pool so that it is dug into the ground and covered with an insulated structure, so it can be used all year round. At the same time we plan to incorporate modern changing rooms and toilet facilities.

  • Need

    Need

Outdoor pool is uncovered, so it can only be used during the summer term (only 6 weeks or so!!). There are no toilet facilities and changing facilities are two garden sheds which are very cold in bad weather. The depth of the pool is so shallow our Year 6 pupils struggle to swim without kicking the bottom!

It is cost and energy inefficient and environmentally unfriendly, as the heat escapes into the atmosphere. It is also impossible for other schools or community to use as not self contained.

    Solution

Our plan is to redevelop the pool so that it is dug into the ground and covered with an insulated structure, so it can be used all year round. At the same time we plan to incorporate modern changing rooms and toilet facilities. The site is large enough to support these works and we have great community support from our village and the surrounding areas. We have had quotes for this work, and we have contractors ready to start once we have the sum of money required.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Our plan is to redevelop the pool so that it is dug into the ground and covered.

    Activities

» Dig pool into the ground.

    What success will look like

Ability for children at Plaxtol Primary School and other schools in the local area to use the pool, plus local community.

  • Impact

    Impact

Healthy, happy children who are safer in the water, having had the opportunity to learn to swim. Learning to swim is an essential life skill. Being able to have swimming lessons all year round will significantly improve their ability to swim and reduce the likelihood that they will get into a situation from which they cannot save themselves. Swimming also helps to develop strong bones and muscles, reduces stress and tension, and increases wellbeing.

    Risk

Pool will be developed in stages if insufficient money is raised to ensure it will all be put to good use.

    Reporting

Photographs and updates will be sent to donors.

    Location

    Plaxtol

    Beneficiaries

Plaxtol (93 pupils), Ightham (202 pupils), St Lawrence (88 pupils), Shipbourne (58 pupils), Platt (132 pupils), and Oakley (181 pupils), which is a special needs school. More importantly for our parish, we can open the pool up to other community groups and organisations, such as nursery schools and Scouts/Guides, as well as parish residents. Plaxtol has 1000+ residents who would benefit hugely from a community swimming pool, which they would be able to use in the evenings and at weekends.
