  • Need

    Need

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller children and young people remain one of the most disadvantaged groups in the United Kingdom with the poorest outcomes. We want to harness our community's energy in a positive way to encourage greater confidence, and a vehicle for voices to be heard, successes shared and a common understanding maintained of the significant barriers for these disenfranchised children and young people.

We want to give a voice to the unheard.

    Solution

We want to start by creating a 4 yearly magazine for UK-wide Gypsy, Roma and Traveller children and young people to share their experiences and voices, both through text and photo stories.

    Our magazine will:

    - create an ambitious platform for GRT CYP to get involved and share their experiences - to have a voice
    - provide a vehicle for improving literacy and basic skills
    - provide a vehicle for agencies to access GRT CYP with advice and signposting

    Impact

We hope to see this magazine develop into an online platform for UK-wide Gypsy, Roma and Traveller children and young people so that we have a GRT community which is:

    - more confident
    - more informed
    - better skilled

We will demonstrate this by the end of Year 5 of the magazine and potential website by:

    - Achieving 200 unique children and young people contributing to writing and developing the magazine
    - 25% increase in GRT CYP accessing support

We have planned to start within Wales as our base region in Year 1 and then gradually branch out following ongoing review.
