#LoveHoxton is a project to celebrate the people, stories and heritage of Hoxton. It will open up the church building to the local community through an exciting programme of activities. It will conserve the historic building and create affordable housing and community-use and co-working spaces.
May 2018 - September 2022
Charity information: St John's Hoxton (The Parochial Church Council Of The Ecclesiastical Parish Of St John The Baptist With Christ Church, Hoxton)
St John's Church, Hoxton is an amazing heritage asset - described by English Heritage as 'architecturally and aesthetically the most significant building in Hoxton'. However, the building is in need of urgent conservation work, and we're also struggling for usable space and facilities for community use. We want to make the heritage and history of Hoxton more accessible for all. We also want to help tackle the affordable housing crisis by building some genuinely affordable rental homes.
The project will enable us to undertake necessary repairs and improvements to conserve, open up and interpret the historic church building, as well as build a new community-use annexe for youth groups, food banks, community events, toddler groups and the like. We will refurbish the crypt to create affordable co-working space, and release a plot of car park land to develop affordable homes.
