British Red Cross Myanmar Appeal

In the Rakhine State of Myanmar, a desperate situation has unfolded, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee in search of safety.
All communities affected by the violence are suffering, and Red Cross is deeply concerned about the condition of families hit by this crisis

  • Need

422,000 people have fled Myanmar’s western state of Rakhine into neighbouring Bangladesh in recent weeks. As a result families are being torn apart as they struggle without life-saving food, water, medical supplies and our colleagues in the area are best placed to help.

The Red Cross Movement is scaling up aid efforts to minimise the suffering of people fleeing violence. In the Rakhine State of Myanmar, the Red Cross in recent weeks have assisted more than 10,000 people with first aid, medical supplies, clean water, food and other emergency items.
Your support will enable us to support this life-saving work

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Provide emergency items to save lives, prevent infection in the first stage of emergency response

» Provision of blankets so families can stay warm at night
» Provide shelter for those who have been displaced from their homes
» Purchase of jerry cans and purified water to enable people to have access to clean, safe water for washing, cooking and drinking
» Provision of hygiene packs, ensuring people have the necessary items to stay clean, prevent disease and maintain their dignity

    What success will look like

Minimising infection, the saving of lives of mostly women and children, providing life saving warmth, shelter and preventing dehydration

  • Impact

This is an emergency response appeal which will lessen numbers of preventable diseases, dehydration and deaths , whilst allowing survivors to maintain their dignity in very difficult circumstances

The British Red Cross is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee, which brings together 13 leading UK aid charities in times of crisis

Raising insufficient funds to support all of the families who need our help right now. This will put at risk the lives of those who need our help to survive in the short term

We will be able to contact our donors with a financial update of the support they have provided and how they have saved lives as a result
