  • Need

There is a lack of opportunities for young people from areas of deprivation with disabilities to access affordable inclusive community streetdance provision across Leeds.

We will aim tackle this by providing a FREE, Low cost/ no cost, fun, inclusive year long dance program, with wider opportunities attached. We will continue to build on the work of the DAZL streetdance crew for young people 3-25yrs with disabilities across Leeds. This program will be part of the DAZL international championship winning cheerdance/ streetdance crews from DAZL Diamonds and DAZL Inspire.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To raise a minimum of £500 towards a community inclusive dance program

» Melissa will be doing a sponsored event which involves completing the 150 mile walk across Spain

    What success will look like

To have created a fund which enables DAZL to set up and develop inclusive community dance group/ dance strand part of the DAZL provision.

    Aim 2

To provide young people with disabilities from Leeds, new and exciting dance opportunities.

» To build and support our community disability dance program for young people also provide wider cultural opportunities.

    What success will look like

We will aim to engage 20 young people weekly and follow their progress through social media. We will also obtain feedback from the young people and their families.

  • Impact

The young people will have better health and wellbeing through been involved in this program. The will gain a passion for dance and gain transferable skills which they will assist them in the future. They will also have a greater social network of friends and have gained new creative/ cultural experiences. We will demonstrate this impact through both digital and more traditional case studies.

The risks are that we might have to change the start date and end date to the project. We have already sourced staffing, venues and have interest from the young people across Leeds who attend the SILC's of which we have already built a relationship with.

We will report via social media also blogs via DAZL website and our partners ensuring we gain as much coverage as possible. We will also inform people/ supporters/ donors via our Mailchimp email system and publish the success in our annual review.

DAZL has a proven track record of delivering inclusive street and cheerdance. For the past 9 years DAZL has worked with young people with various disabilities. This has mainly been in school settings (SILC's) and we are now looking to bring this into our community provision. The DAZL community provision engages over 1000 young people across Leeds every week, this provision has been running since the year 2000.
