  • Need

    Need

The project will support children with conditions including adhd, autism & downs syndrome as well as parents and carers at their wits ends, not knowing which way to turn and how best to support their child. It will also help parents/carers on our waiting list, which is currently 4 months long. School teachers & teaching assistants often come across emergency situations within schools when supporting children with learning difficulties or behavioural issues often needing instant help and advice.

    Solution

We propose to recruit an apprentice as an Associate Therapist to develop within our charity. This recruit will take the lead role on the helpline and be the first point of contact for desperate parents/carers and school staff looking for immediate support. The Associate Therapist will provide any immediate help that he/she can, but for more involved or serious issues refer the case to our Therapy Team. This helpline will be provided free of charge to children, parents and their carers.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Helping children reach their potential

    Activities

» Assisting parents to help their children offering expert advice and support.

We carry out an annual consultation and share our results online and in our reports to trustees etc. We will monitor number of calls and gather feedback from families and children.

    Aim 2

Reduced risk of school exclusion and calmer classrooms

    Activities

» Support teachers with telephone advice or visit if required, helping to calm situations, increase teachers confidence, benefiting whole classes.

We will work closely with schools to monitor the effect of our work and gain continuous feedback from teachers we work with.

    Aim 3

    Happier healthier children

    Activities

» Supporting parents, helping to take away stress. Making life better for extended family members & siblings. Calmer families means happier lives .

We will monitor numbers of telephone calls to our helpline and follow up all calls and keep in touch with families to assess the impact of our work.

  • Impact

    Impact

We will improve lives, make them less stressful. A free helpline will reduce our waiting list further as we may be able to resolve issues simply with a phone call. By supporting parents we will provide greater understanding of childrens' conditions. Helping parents in this way will be very valuable to them knowing that there is somebody available to listen. Work in school will lead to better outcomes for children , better learning opportunities and help children to reach their potential.

    Risk

If we do not reach our fundraising target we will be unable to recruit and will therefore have no staff resource to run the telephone line, meaning parents have no option but to wait until their appointment at bibic becomes available. We are approaching as many funders as possible to seek match funding for this project. We may find demand for our telephone line is extremely high and will not be able to cope with the high level of calls received a may need to recruit more staff to do so.

    Reporting

We keep records of communication and all assessments and therapies that we deliver. We are happy to provide evaluation reports and also share information in our impact reports online on our website and through twitter.
