Charity information: Hillhouse

  • Need

The purpose of Hillhouse is to address inequality and improve the lives of vulnerable
children and families across Ayrshire by providing free clothing, other practical support. We aim to address the affects of poverty in our local area.

Our proposed project will not solve the problem of poverty but will give light relief to children on Christmas morning.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

to have every child in need in East Ayrshire receive 2 parcels to be open on Christmas morning.

» Referrals are received from early years establishments and local primary schools

    What success will look like

By receiving feedback from the school and the child's parent

  • Impact

For families unable to afford to meet basic needs has complex knock on effects and can lead to exclusion. For example, it is sadly common for children facing poverty - who have fewer clothes and toys - to be left out or experience bullying at school. Some of the key impacts of our service have been shown to be people ‘feeling better about them and strengthened child and family relationships.

That we do not receive sufficient donations to meet the demand.

We deal with this risk by making appeals to local residents and businesses.

We will inform donors of the number of presents have been distributed.

  • Background

We are based in East Ayrshire and the needs of the community we serve are reflected in current key indicators. The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation indicates that 32 of East Ayrshire’s data zones are within the 15% most deprived in Scotland, with over 20% of the population living in these communities. 12 are in the most deprived 5%, 8 in the worst 5-10%, and 12 in the worst 10-15%.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

We are the only children’s charity in Ayrshire and we have a bank of people who volunteer to wrap all our presents. We have the resources to distribute the presents to the early years establishments and to the local schools.
