A Leeds Bereavement Support Worker
We are working with other organisations in the region to raise the funds to pay for a a Bereavement Support Worker who will reach out and be there for a family when they need them the most. They will be there to help them through the first few days, weeks and months if needed.

Our new research has found families in Leeds have insufficient support following the sudden
death of a child.
We found that:
Only 16% of professionals in Leeds think that child bereavement support is
100% of the families who had contacted the counselling service found it
unsuitable due to long waiting times or lack of child bereavement experience
Over 50% of professionals said they did not know who coordinated childbereavement services in Leeds
We want to create a Bereavement Support Worker who will reach out and be there for a family when they need them the most. They will be there to help them through the first few days, weeks and months if needed. They will offer tailored support that the family feel they need, whether this is helping them work out what to tell their children, who to contact to arrange a funeral, or to explain the coroners process – they will be they will be there.
To raise the funds for Bereavement support worker for 3 years. We need 50% of the funding (£30,000)

What success will look like
By raising the funds and and hiring the member of staff in conjunction with partners.
For the next 3 years this role will work with families who have experienced sudden child loss in Leeds. We will measure how many families we support, how they rate the service and if our research data at the end of the 3 year period shows improved support overall from our original research.
Our key risk right now is funding the project, which is why we have already secured a partner to fund 50% of the role. They have also offered a location to base the project and to manage the worker.
Another risk is securing the role post the 3 years it will be in place. That is why we are already in talks with the NHS about the long term ideals of this work.
Donors will be made aware of the work they are doing through our public communication channels and will get a yearly update as part of our AGM.

It will be based in Leeds and support any family in the region who has experienced sudden child loss regardless of the cause of death.
Families, friends of families and siblings who have experienced sudden child loss in Leeds.
We have been working with the NHS and other local organisations for years in offering support and advice to improve services. Our trustee board is made of people who work and advise in this sector. It completes one of our key aims to provide more professional help for those who have experienced child loss.
