Charity information: Halstead Day Centre
Approx 70% of our services users live the small rural villages, therefore may feel more isolated from community involvement than their urban counterparts. Many are self neglecting, due to living alone and isolating themselves mainly because they don't have the support or means to become involved. Some are malnourished and are not looking after health issues or keeping themselves clean. Depression due to loneliness quickly sets in and links to wider community services soon deminish.
Over the years The Day Centre has listened to our service users and what type and range of support they want to help them remain, with dignity in their own homes if they wish. We have identified that provision of transport and support to leave their homes with support to access a project in their own community, with people who are facing the same issues due to being isolated and in some cases forgotten. All our activities address these problems and help us act on them positively.

We demonstrate this by the need for The Day Centre for 37 years.
As a registered Charity we have always tried to be prudent in our fund raising strategy. The manager continuously seeks out funding opportunities from grant giving organisations and local fun raising activities. We look for 2 or year funding opportunities to help us secure the provision of our service. All our statutory funding was stopped 2 years ago putting us in a very vulnerable situation, but, we continue to be positive for the future.
6 monthly reports and up dates on our progress. doner's are always welcome to visit at any time and see for themselves the excellent work and success The Day Centre has achieved over the years .

The Day Centre is located in the small town of Halstead Essex. Our catchment area includes approx 16 rural villages, many of which have little or no services and minimal access to transport, due to location or type of disability. 70% of our service users live in the villages making their chances of experiencing isolation issues greater than their urban counterparts.
The Centre is intended for people over 60 who are isolated from their community by whatever reason. Our activities are broadly preventive and cater for a range of different needs and abilities. Some of the people who come to The Day Centre do not see another person other than a carer for more than 15 minutes in the morning and the same in the evening and that depends on care needs. Older resident cares also benefit by reason of day care for their cared for providing them with a break.
The Day Centre has been providing activities for older people for 37 years. During that time we have assessed just what older people want and need to remain as healthy and independent as possible in their own homes, but, also have the means to leave their homes and interact with other people. The Centre owns its own building specially adapted for older people, we also own and maintain 2 minibuses, all purchased by fundraising activities and Lottery funding.
