  • Need

    Need

The unit within the childrens hospital is and continues to be unfit for purpose. There are four stations, but it very crammed and does not provide sufficient space ordinarily found in other Hospitals. It is not child friendly and too small. Of the 4 stations, one is a cubicle. For example, a haemodialysis bed and machine will not fit into the cubicle.

    Solution

At Kidney Wales we plan to solve the above by extending the unit by occupying the room adjacent to the unit, then more space will become available and adaptations will be made to make the unit more child friendly as patients will be spending 4-6 hours a day, 3-4 days a week at this unit. This project will improve the lives of patients visiting the unit regularly.

We will monitor the use of the unit once the refurbishment has been done to ensure the unit being used for dialysis treatment to it's full. capacity.

  • Impact

    Impact

This refurbishment will improve the experience they receive when visiting the unit for their treatment. It will be a more welcoming and child friendly facility. It will also allow the unit to work to it's full capacity. This will be demonstrated and monitored through the unit staff at the Childrens Hospital.

    Risk

The only risk that was identified was the possibility the Childrens Hospital could turn down the application for this refurbishment. Fortunately the team are fully on board and see the benefits of this project taking pace.
