FACT General Fund

Fellowship Afloat is a unique place for adventure, relaxation and exploring the environment located on the east coast in Tollesbury, Essex. Each year we welcome nearly 2000 children & young people to stay with us on board. Donating to our General Fund will ensure we are ready for guests in 2018.

  • Need

Our centre, Trinity, is a converted Lightvessel & the place our groups stay while they are enjoying their adventure at FACT. Our general fund ensures that we are always fit for purpose and ready to welcome all guests. Whether a light bulb needs to be changed, safety equipment replaced, galley facilities improved or sailing equipment updated or renewed. The fund also enables our fees to be kept at an accessible level and ensures our team receive all the necessary training.

Each year any surplus from the General Fund can be used to renew & replace items essential to the running of the organisation. This varies each year but could be used towards equipment upgrades.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Top up our General Fund to ensure our aims will be met in 2018.

» Monthly email to all our supporters to update them on news at FACT.
» Fundraising dinners on board Trinity in February to boost funds.
» Contact trusts who have supported us in the past.
» Continue promotion of our £5 a month campaign for an increased number of regular donors.

    What success will look like

When we have achieved the budgeted amount in our General Fund at the start of the year.

  • Impact

Many children & their teachers that attend FACT tell us about their experiences via the feedback forms. They talk of children growing in confidence, enjoying their first bit of independence, exploring faith matters, & all the new activities they have loved - sailing, kayaking, archery, climbing wall, high ropes & evening walks along the coast. 83% of groups that come re-book for the following year. Many new groups contact us via recommendation from existing group leaders/head teachers.

Groups not re-booking for 2019 - we would contact those that have been on the waiting list for space. In previous years when we have had a cancellation we have been proactive to refill the vacancy through advertising & direct contact.
Equipment failure - we have an effective and planned maintenance schedule to minimise risk of this occurring.
Lack of funds - several years ago we started a £5 per month campaign - this helps to top up our General Fund with many regular donors taking part.

    Monthly e-newsletter - Prayer Necessities

We always personally thank everyone who supports us - either via email, phone call or letter.

  • Background

Located in Tollesbury on the east coast. FACT obtained charitable status in 1967, and have just celebrated our 50th year. In 1998 we purchased Trinity House lightvessel No 15 and raised £360,000 to convert her to house 36 berths & supporting accommodation. Since our start over 65,000 people have got involved at FACT and we have provided 112,500 bed nights. We are now raising funds to increase the group capacity on board to 48 over a 5 phase project, phase 1 completed in 2016.

We welcome school & youth groups from across the country, mainly years 5, 6 & 7. Throughout their time with us they learn many new skills - sailing, kayaking, high ropes, archery & the challenging climbing wall. We also welcome children with differing special needs & enjoy helping them try new things and challenge their own boundaries. Our team of Instructors have a great life experience living in community and enjoying learning new skills & instructing the children/young people.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

We are a unique centre best placed to offer adventure & new challenges to all that attend in a supportive environment. We are always looking at new ways to raise funds to support FACT. We heard about The Christmas Challenge and felt it would be a great way to involve our current & new supporters at a traditional time of giving. We would love to be included in The Christmas Challenge.
