  • Need

Finding bespoke accommodation is difficult. Some of the children we support have severe disability and are in an out of hospital at short notice - some have life-limiting illness, to provide holiday/respite we are aiming to provide

This project is in demand, we have many families who have not had a holiday or break since we launched it Jan 2017. We are offering this facility free of charge so the families are not disadvantaged. We are very flexible with times and dates, offering short breaks Friday to Monday or Monday to Friday all year round. We have catered for every need, the siblings with electronic gaming, TV and Satelite adults, on site swimming pool and members only entertainment for children and adults.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To make life-long memories for our families to treasure.

    » Swimming
    » Children's Bingo/Entertainment provided on site
» Beach Fun, the Caravan is beside the beach and we have provided a Hippocampe specailised wheelchair to allow disabled children time on the beach
» In house electronic entertainment and games in bespoke accommodation

    What success will look like

We have some amazing feed back from the families that have already used our provision. It is hugely successful but we need annual running costs for this project of about £5K.

    Aim 2

To allow families to be spirited, have fun and be included in the community

» Swimming on site free of charge and organised activities
» secured outdoor games areas, parks all free of charge and accessible to families on site
» To make friendships and be included in the community, entertainment provided on the site free of charge
» free gym on site and child and adult entertainment

    What success will look like

Feed back from both children and parents. Also asking for ideas for improvement. The bookings are full. We also include in the facility a memories book, and feed back forms.

    Aim 3

To ensure that a holiday/respite is provided free from pecuniary hardship

» We provide a whole range of facilities free of charge on site, we have fully functioning kitchen in the respite facility to provide own meals

    What success will look like

we offer the facilities free to ensure no one is excluded, despite their financial position, but in our area, there is deprivation

  • Impact

From the feedback to date we have had, "Loved the bingo, collected pebbles from the beach and had the best weekend of my life" - Fracessca aged 7 young carer - Hannah' s mum, "Can we have another night as Hannah's stress level and ours have significantly decreased". We believe we are making changes, already by giving our children and families a five star facility, on a five star site at Amble Links. We will annually seek feedback, as we aim to meet needs.

We have covered all aspects, risk assessments, fire drills, rules of occupation. We have visited and asked each family to sign paperwork, we have appropriate insurance. We have a Handbook on site, and any incidental issue that arise the Site Staff are wonderful and offer great support. We have fire blankets, extinguisher and locks on doors containing cleaning products. We take health and safety very seriously for this project.

We are happy to provide feedback electronically. We are happy to include donors in our Web Page www.outofsight.org.uk. We are happy to promote in social media, whatever may be appropriate to the specific donor.

    Amble Links

It is situated about 1/5 mile from Amble Harbour and a five minute walk to the beach. It is situated about a 15 minute walk to the shops and high street. It has security at the gate to allow owners in only. It is a 5 star site, with 5 star facilities including swimming pool, gym, and outdoor play areas with private Owners club for adults and children. There is a restaurant with bar. Most of the entertainment is free all facilities are free.

The members of Out of Sight Charity, children who are visually impaired/blind, many of whom have severe disability. The siblings of the children and parents and/or carers.

The children can often be young carers and as siblings often miss out of events because of the disability of the child - this holiday/respite facility ensures everyone is catered for and that cost will never be an issue. Since opening in Jan 2017 this facility has proven to be a huge success. We need funding to continue

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

From November 2015 to January 2017 we raised an amazing £50K to purchase a brand new disability unit at Amble Links to provide this project. We also found donors for supplying equipment, the ramp, outside shedding and specailised wheelchair for the beach. The money was raised by bag packs, fund raising evenings, raffles - there was no donors it was sheer hard work and determination. We are committed to offering this facility free. There are no paid staff we all work for free.
