Expand training into Teacher Training Colleges
Following discussions with the Ministry of Education and Sports, we are seeking funding to expand our training programme into government Primary Teacher Training Colleges (PTCs) to help transform the quality of learning in every school, into the future.
Charity information: Redearth Education
Uganda is grappling with one the highest primary school dropout rates in the world, reaching 80% in rural areas. The quality of teaching is a factor contributing to this. Teachers do not have the skills, resources or confidence to try out more effective, research-based strategies. Children are learning to repeat & recite but not to interpret, analyse or innovate, resulting in a school experience in which children do not develop the skills needed to face the challenges ahead.
Teaching Colleges are the ‘root’ of teaching practice in Ugandan government schools. Returning to this root and building capacity in pre-service student teachers can transform the quality of learning in every school, into the future. The training will equip student teachers with the most recent context specific skills and tools to achieve active, child-centred learning. It will also develop skills to adapt to evolving pedagogical developments throughout their careers.
