Samaritans Van

We want to replace our current van, which is 10 years old. It is used for outreach work, collection and movement of donated items to and between our two shops. It is also used to support another local charity with the collection of items at certain times of the year

  • Need


    The current van is expensive to maintain and, due to its age is neither fuel efficient nor environmentally friendly. Also its interior is not suitable for the outreach work we wish to undertake


    It will provide a more efficient and environmentally acceptable operating vehicle with an interior more suitable to our projected needs

  • Impact


    Increase in outreach work, both for our charity and in conjunction with other local charities. Decrease transport costs in connection with the collection of items for our two shops thus increasing income to support our main activity.

    This will be demonstrated by a higher profile in our area and improved cash flow


    We do not achieve the target funds we need and therefore have to to purchase a vehicle that does not meet all our requirements


    Donors will be invited to review the specifications and will be shown the vehicle when purchased. They will also be offered the opportunity to have their sponsorship noted on the vehicle

  • Background


    Norwich Samaritans are situated in the city of Norwich (population just under 250K) but we cover most of Norfolk as well. The van will be mainly used in the city and surrounding area. The city hosts two universities and a large university hospital and we have involvement at all three as well as the police and the local mental health trust


    Use of the van increases public awareness of the work that we do- it branding is quite distinctive and contains all the relevant information on how to contact us. With greater emphasis on outreach work it will enable us to reach some of those who need our services in the more rural areas- one of our target groups

    Our charity has been providing support to those in distress and crisis for over 50 years from our base in Norwich. Great public awareness of our services will enhance the work we do do and also that carried out by our public sector partners and other charities with whom we work
