Shepherds View Isolation Kennels

Following the completion of 3 stables, a tack room & sales room to allow greater access when working with vulnerable adults who love to work with the dogs this project has been extended to provide 2 isolation kennels for long stay/injured animals. A quiet area for recuperation/rehabilatation.

    Need

    Ability to house more abused and abandoned dogs without increasing costs
    Also improve accessibility to work with vulnerable adults instead of being stuck to commercial kennel opening hours
    The addition of isolation kennels will allow a quiet area for animals recovering from illness and those animals that need behaviour rehabilitation or are of a nervous disposition.

    Solution

    Kennels will be on Charity's own leased land and therefore in complete charge of when and how people can visit.
    It will also provide a shop facility to provide work experience for both unemployed volunteers and adults with learning difficulties

    » Provide a planned weekly activity schedule and liaise with local services to identify appropriate candidates for the scheme

    Monthly meetings with the various organisation and one-one meetings with individuals to identify the benefits they receive. Number of uptake on the scheme

    Fund raising events have been ongoing throughout the year to raise sufficient funds to complete the extra stage of this project
    A media campaign at all events and local radio has been appealing for further volunteers

    Regular monthly updates until the project is completed followed by quarterly newsletters and social media

    Location

    The kennels will be built at Shepherds View, St. Giles, Torrington. EX38 7JU which is the current location of the charity.
    The charity has been granted a 25 year lease on the land.

    Beneficiaries

    The charity will benefit as indicated earlier from increased activity without increase costs.
    The community will benefit as the charity will be able to help more people either by taking in their dogs or providing training .
    Injured & nervous animals will benefit by having a quiet are to recover
    An identified audience of long term unemployed & vulnerable adults will benefit from having both a social outlet & gaining valuable life skills and work experience
