  • Need

The future stars of the art-form perfect their talent in our dance studios. We founded Ballet Central over 30 years ago to give vital experience of performing on stage. The 2017 tour made The Guardian's top 2 dance picks. We can do even more with the right touring equipment and support for the Technical Team who operate it. Instead of depending on the equipment we can hire from individual theatres we can deliver higher production values across all performances to benefit students and audiences.

You can help us replace our portable dance floor, which has seen better days, and purchase new equipment including a gauze (a curtain/cloth to create special effects), a star cloth (a backcloth equipped with LED lights) and a tab track (to operate the backcloths). We are also seeking support for our Technical Team including Lighting Design and our Technical Manager. Finally we need new ballet barres for company classes - the warm up for our dancers before rehearsals and performances on tour.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Deliver our stunning 2018 Ballet Central tour across the nation.

» Purchase new touring equipment as detailed in budget and subject to funding.
» Showcase a new repertoire for 2018 working with leading choreographers.
» Deliver a higher production standard across 25+ performances in 20+ venues between March and July 2018.

    What success will look like

By offering an enhanced experience for our students, reaching an audience of over 7,000 and inspiring critical acclaim for our tour.

  • Impact

It will save the cost/time to rent equipment from theatres. We will deliver higher production values across all performances from larger venues to smaller local theatres. This will help grow our audience especially reaching first time audiences. It will enhance the experience for students who are involved in all aspects of the tour, even the get in/get our, helping them understand the work of those who will support them in their careers. This enhances employability as they launch their careers.

We tour to venues and regions with limited arts provision, including some small local theatres. Whilst this project advances production values, we will still have to adapt our performance for these smaller stages. It is an important experience for our students and creates a diverse tour. Each year we add new venues to our touring schedule. It takes time to engage the local community to build a loyal audience and we are cautious in estimating audience figures for these venues.

Donors can opt-in to receive a bi-annual newsletter which will share highlights from the project and any major changes to the project plans. We also share regular highlights from our tour through social media. Donors will receive the tour dates - we hope they will join us for a performance.
