Digital inclusion for older people
Many older people do not have access to the internet. Our project is to provide equipment such as mobile devices and scanners to enable our volunteer advocates to support clients. This will speed our responses to clients and enable their access to welfare benefits system.

Volunteers visit clients in their own homes and often need copies of different types of paperwork or undertake research for people at the time of the visit. Many older people do not have access to the internet. More and more agencies require an online application. This is difficult and very off putting for people who do qualify and can prevents them from accessing their rights.
Our project to provide equipment to support our volunteers will help them to reduce the time taken to provide support. It will mean that advocates won't have to take documents away for photocopying or ask a client to bring paperwork into our office for photocopying. Instead the advocate will be able to take copies of any information required there and them. Having access to the internet will enable advocates to support online applications for clients who do not have access.

We monitor number of clients and success of claims made using our database.
Help to alleviate poverty and maximize benefit uptake. When a case closes we ask for clients to complete and exit survey as part of that survey we ask questions about well being and, confidence to engage with various agencies. The information received from this survey will allow us to track the impact of our work on clients.
New changes to the benefits system would have to be dealt with by further training for our volunteers.
We produce an annual report that will be available to all donors and provide any information requested. We maintain a database that can provide information about issues, location and age of clients.

We work in the York area. York has 206,856 residents with 5.7% from a black and minority ethnic community group. 83.9% are in good health, with 15.3% stating that they have some limitation in day to day activities
66% own their own home, either outright or with a mortgage, 18% are private renters and 14% are social tenants.
• 73.5% of residents have a NVQ level 1 - 4 qualification and 18.0% have no qualifications at all.
The beneficiaries of this project will be clients who need help with benefits claims, benefit appeals and tribunals or who require information about their entitlement to welfare benefits. Following on from the trend in clients asking for support above, we are anticipating that a further 90 to 100 people will benefit through access to our advocacy support through this project
Over the last 15 months we have addressed 71 cases relating to benefits work, 22 of which have been completed, but 49 of which currently remain open to advocates in the team. During 2016 we dealt with approximately 270 cases across all types of issues. At the time of writing we have 103 live cases within the service (compared to an average of 79 live cases at any given time in 2016). In the last quarter, our service is averaging 30 new referrals a month.
