We will give young Londoners the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence through the arts by resourcing community youth organisations, creating meaningful partnership with London’s arts institutions and enabling young people to showcase their talents on the capitals most amazing stages.
Charity information: London Youth
A New Direction’s ‘Cultural Capital’ review made clear that significant numbers of young Londoners, especially those from lower income backgrounds, have low levels of cultural awareness and participation and face a number of barriers to engagement. Not only are young people missing out on the enjoyment of arts and culture for their own sake, there’s also evidence that cultural literacy enables social mobility and facilitates the development of soft skills that help with success in later life.
Getting Creative will drive resources and expertise into youth organisation across the capital to give young people the opportunity to experience arts activities chosen by them in their local community. Through meaningful partnership with arts institutions we will break down barriers and support young people to engage in London’s arts offer and access opportunities for experience, qualifications and progression.

We intend to scale up the delivery of this programme to support 100 members and this initial work with 10 members will enable us to learn a great deal.
150 young people, from 10 of our members, will have the opportunity to participate in arts based activities and gain skills and see increases in their social and emotional capabilities.
The member organisations will be better resourced and able to deliver quality arts projects and have improved partnerships with arts institutions
As a new programme we understand there will be challenges which may impact delivery. To mitigate this we have undertaken consultation with our members to understand the need for this programme and have been working with organisations, like A New Direction, who have significant experience in the arts arena. We are also building on a proven model - our sports programme - and engaging an experience Arts Development Officer to manage the programme.
Donors will receive a full report on the activities undertaken by each of the member organisations taking part, details of the impact on young people and highlights from the art work produced and activities carried out by young people. There may also be opportunities to attend showcase events.

We directly support more than 25,000 young people every year offering opportunities in sports, social action, outdoor education and employability and reach tens of thousands more through our network of 300 member youth clubs60% of our members are in the 20% most economically deprived areas of England and encompass a hugely diverse range of organisations, including traditional youth clubs, community centres, arts and sports clubs, and projects for refugees and disabled young people.
150 young people, as well as youth workers, across a diverse range of 10 community youth organisaitons within our membership will benefit from engagement in Getting Creative.
Arts and cultural are, bar none, the most popular activities at the community youth organisations within our membership. Our recent membership survey shows that arts and crafts (124 clubs), drama (67 clubs) and music (76 clubs) are hugely popular activities in communities across London but many of the organisations providing these struggle to fund the equipment they need, the experts to deliver them and the networks to connect the most interested and talented into London's amazing cultural offer
