Sevenfold Fundraising

Core funding is the hardest thing for charities to raise, but it is absolutely vital to the success of any charity’s programmes. Our Big Idea is to raise core funds for Sabre’s fundraising team to in turn generate seven times this amount for our projects in Ghana – turning £24,000 into £168,000!

April 2018 - March 2019

  • Need

    Need

Sabre’s mission is to build a brighter future for school children in Ghana, we do this by building better schools and providing transformational teacher training to improve the life chances of some of the poorest young Ghanaians. Our fundraising team has a proven record for generating £7 from every £1 we spend on fundraising, so we know that by raising core funds we can significantly impact on thousands more children in Ghana.

    Solution

Over the past 8 years, Sabre’s Brighter Futures programme has demonstrated significant positive impact in Ghana, building 12 schools, training 720 teachers and improving the lives of over 23,000 children. Our Sevenfold Fundraising challenge will help our team in Ghana to scale these impacts to many more communities, teachers and children. The funds generated as a result of this challenge will help fund a district wide teacher training programme, which will benefit over 5,000 children every year.

  • Impact

    Impact

Strengthening Sabre’s existing funding relationships and creating new ones will expand our portfolio of income streams and repeat funders. This will create further financial sustainability for Sabre and most importantly sustain programme delivery in Ghana. This project will enable Sabre to carry out vital fundraising to expand the reach of Sabre’s Teacher Training programme to a new district. This will create a long term change in the way kindergarten education is delivered in Ghana.

    Risk

Failing to secure core funding needed to continue Sabre’s fundraising function would jeopardise the future of Sabre’s entire programme delivery.
    We mitigate this risk by:
•Having an active reserves policy to ensure core functions are covered for at least 3 months
•Carrying out quarterly forecasting to anticipate and react to dips in income and peaks in programme costs
•Ensuring we have varied income streams, including community and corporate fundraising and grants to maintain income stability.

    Reporting

Donors will receive regular reports on the project detailing the ongoing and forthcoming activities and any necessary changes that have been made to the project plans. We also publish social media updates, based on our dedicated programme blogs. Our annual report is distributed to all of our donors.

  • Background

    Location

The Sabre fundraising team is based in the UK, in different locations, in Cornwall at Sabre’s main office and in London working from home and hot desking at a corporate partner. The team works efficiently to raise funds to enable the 43 staff in Ghana to deliver the Brighter Futures programme. The programme benefits communities in the Central and Western Regions. Income generated using this Big Give fundraising will be earmarked for a district wide Teacher Training programme.

    Beneficiaries

Securing unrestricted funding for the Fundraising Team will enable them to generate 7 times more income, growing £24,000 to £168,000. This will enable Sabre to expand its Teacher Training programme into a new district. Up to 200 kindergarten teachers will be given the skills and confidence to teach in a child-centred way. Over 5,000 four and five year old children will benefit from a quality education, providing them with a strong foundation by learning through activity and play.
