  • Need

    Need

There are several problematic issues and barriers which connect the community groups addressed through 'There is only one race - the Human Race' embedded through the misunderstanding and ignorance of the peaceful teaching of Islam, leading to community tensions and nervousness. Racism without thought through a lack of acceptance of the cultural beliefs of other human beings, judging people by the colour of their skin only and treating them badly can also be where the ignorance and hate comes in

    Solution

Through encouraging interdependence, acceptance and friendship this project will begin the gradual breakdown of racial discrimination across all participants enabling empowerment and confidence to grow within communities and real friendships to develop.
Partnerships and friendships will thrive on an individual and group basis because we will link people to our friendship/safety circles work and offer 'Come Dine with Me' experiences to give added value to this vital work.

  • Impact

    Impact

Through strong partnership working this project will promote. we will form sustainable and cohesive partnership working that will continue to grow as the grant tapers to a close. We will link this to our friendship circles work and endeavour to empower confident diverse communities to grow, learn and fair quality time together. Learning for each others experiences. We will also link our 'Come Dine with Me' project to this work so that people from difference cutltures and backgrounds.

    Risk

Lack of engagement would seem to be the major risk. We have mitigated this by our strong links with Rema, Tassibee and Nayi Zinghadi, together with links to local services such as REACH and Social EYES where people with learning disabilities and or autism some of whom have enduring mental health issues.. have expressed an interest in learning together and developing meaningful relationships with people from different cultures and belief systems.

    Reporting

We will report regularly, donors will be invited to take part in our workshops and we will write an interim and end, easy read report about the success of the project.
We will launch the project on our Website and celebrate its successes

  • Background

    Location

    Deprivation
Deprivation in Rotherham increased between the 2007 and 2015 Indices of Deprivation with the Borough now ranked 52nd most deprived district compared to 68th in 2007.
Extremist Groups targeted the town last summer with several rallies in the town centre leading to racial tensions and hate/mate crime crime. There is still a culture of isolationism where many cultures are not working interdependently but working in alone without interaction with other cultures

    Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries will be people with learning disabilities and or/autism some of whom have enduring mental heath issues, their families/ supporters/ and personal assistants. Beneficiaries will also be members of the muslim community through direct interaction throughout the project. Ages ranging from 16 upwards. enabling a understanding and capacity building for people who may take longer or struggle to understand or remember issues of importance to enable them to live full lives
