All Heart Appeal
To radically improve diagnosis of heart disease through purchasing two latest generation 3D scanners, one of which can also generate detailed real time 4D moving images of the heart.
Started in autumn 2016, the first scanner has been purchased and fundraising is ongoing for the second scanner.
Charity information: Scannappeal
Improving diagnosis for 50,000 people in our catchment area who have cardiac disease each year, 75% of whom are elderly.
These scanners use a hundred times more data compared to predecessors, resulting in exceptional image quality. Live 4D capability allows for greater accuracy when analysing the heart's structure, efficiency, size, flow and function. It is invaluable in guiding medical management and determining the need for surgical intervention, and also for assessing patients who are receiving chemotherapy.
To purchase two scanners to improve diagnosis of heart disease.
Activities» Soliciting donations from existing and new donors through mailings and other communication methods.
» Running a varied events programme including challenge events with participation from cardiology clinicians.
» Applying to grantmaking trusts.
What success will look like
Once the equipment is purchased, patient figures will be remitted quarterly to our Trustees to monitor use of the equipment.
It is estimated that 3,000 patients a year will benefit from improved diagnosis setting them on the correct treatment path and potentially avoiding surgical intervention. Quarterly patient figures will help demonstrate this.
Fundraising is on a best efforts basis and there is no commitment to provide the equipment with a certain timescale. Our main risk is that fundraising will take longer than we anticipate, which is currently about 2.5 years based on past experience and bearing in mind this is one of three projects currently active.
Two newsletters are mailed each year to supporters plus various enewsletters. We have an active Facebook page and Twitter account. Regular personal letters are sent to high net worth donors and trusts to inform them of progress.

The scanners will be at Amersham and Wycombe hospitals which treat patients living in Buckinghamshire and immediate neighbouring parts of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex.
50,000 patients in this area suffer from cardiac disease each year of which an estimated 3,000 will be diagnosed using these advanced scanners, 75% of whom are elderly.
Scannappeal has been fundraising for 30 years and has a good track record of completing Appeals for life saving equipment in the Buckinghamshire area with a strong core of donors and a well supported events programme.
