Charity information: Parents For Parents - North Yorks (working name Parents4Parents-NorthYorks)
This project will help to overcome the isolation and stigmatisation that parents whose lives are affected by stressful life events and economic or social disadvantage all too often experience. It will enable them to share their experiences with and get support from each other. It will enable them to raise public awareness about their experiences and how they affect their wellbeing and to have a positive influence on attitudes and responses in the wider community and among service providers.
We will train a team of parents from local communities to design and carry out research with parents from different communities who face/have faced very difficut experiences and issues and collect first hand testimony from them. The parents who take part in the research will gradually be brought together in small groups then larger gatherings and finally attend a big event where they will help to present the research findings to other parents and staff from a range of agencies.
