Toddlers play and explore
An outside play area for toddlers to play and explore, to build on their first experiences of social contact outside of their homes, will help with their development The project will be in Millfield Sunderland where there is a severe lack of green spaces with over 80% of houses having no gardens
Charity information: St Mark's (millfield, Sunderland) Community Association
There is a severe lack of green space in Millfield, many families are on low incomes and struggle to find suitable leisure areas for their children. To be able to do this they would have to travel away from their community which would have a cost applied. We want to help offer all families the chance to have the same resources as other families so giving all young children the chance to develop.
We will build a new play area for toddlers in the heart of millfield where parents and their children can access facilities right on their doorstep.
To help young children develop their minds and social skills within their community.
Activities» To build a new play area.
What success will look like
This will be doing by reporting evaluations and the numbers accessing the project
WE will demonstrate the success of the project by the numbers attending. As well as talking to parents and hopefully building relationships with them so their children carry on accessing other provision at our project as they get older.
There could be a risk of vandalism to the play area, we have a metal gated fence around the proposed area, that would be locked when play area would be closed
We will gather information through evaluations and report back to donors

Millfield is high on depravation lists with many families on low incomes. Millfield has a very high percentage of cottages where over 80% don't have gardens. There is a severe lack of green space in millfield so making it hard for children to access active play.
Families in particular small children , parents will also benefit as they will have time to sit and talk to other parents whilst watching their children play in a safe environment
We have carried out similar projects for older children we built a community garden that consisted of a climbing wall, crazy golf course and an AstroTurf area for young people. We have been established since 1986 and have a great track record of offering facilities for the benefit of the local community.
