Funding for a new home for School for Parents.

With this funding, School for Parents could find new premises to be adapted to support the needs of the children and families who attend our classes. Space for parents to break out and gain support from other parents facing similar issues is so important but sadly lacking in our current premises.

Up to 1 year

  • Need

    Need

Due to the complex needs of the children who attend School for Parents the need for space is vital. However in our current premises it leaves limited space for parents to meet up and have time out or socialise. However this is a vital requirement for our charity. Having children with disabilities can be lonely and isolating. At School for Parents we understand this and aim to provide a whole family experience.

    Solution

To have a space that is fit for purpose would mean that School for Parents could not only accommodate a socialising space for parents, it also means we could potentially expand our vital services to children with disabilities. If this space doubled as a viewing gallery then visitors who come to see the work we do, would not have to be disrupting classes and they could ask questions freely. We could also have storage space and staff rooms which would enable us to work more cohesively.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Find new premises

    Activities

» Fundraising towards the cost of the new building
» Actively looking for new premises
» Creation of a focus group made up of service users, local businesses, volunteers and staff to take this project forward.

We will either find suitable premises or we secure funding to build our own school for Parents

  • Impact

    Impact

We will be able to support more children with disabilities for longer enabling them to improve their motor and physical skills.
We will be able to provide better support for parents who need the contact with other parents in a similar situation as much as the support for their child.
We can invite more people in and do more fundraising as we will have our own purpose built premises.

    Risk

    Not finding enough support.
    Not raising enough money.
    Not finding the right premises

The focus group are constantly looking at ways to raise money, find new donors and also find alternative premises should we not be able to raise enough money to move to purpose built accommodation.

    Reporting

We will provide monthly reports to trustees and donors with updates.

    Why Us?

School for Parents is best placed to carry out this project as we are the only centre in the East Midlands who offers this support and cognitive education to parents of children with disabilities. Without our services children with disabilities may not receive the specialised help and education they need to maximise their full potential.

What fantastic support really, it is just so nice to be with other mums and dads in the same position really...because there is a connection there and, it is more than just going to a mother and toddler group really because they understand the challenges that you are up against every single day!
