Borehole for Aim Hai School
The School and its neigbours now suffer from intermittant water supply from the overloaded town system. A borehole would solve the problem.
September 2017 - December 2017
Charity information: Aim Hai Trust
Aim Hai School is located in the rapidly expanding town of Bomang'ombe in Hai District. The existing water supply comes from Mt. Kilimanjaro but is no longer sufficient. It would be an expensive and long term project to expand the existing system.
The quickest route to a regular supply to enhance the town system is to sink a borehole. Test bores have been done and cost estimates have been obtained
To provide constant supply of water to Aim Hai School and its neighbours from a new borehole
Activities» To raise funds for the sinking of a borehole in the School grounds, supplying a pump and pipework to a storage tank
» to extend the supply of water to neighbouring properties if the supply allows
What success will look like
When there is proven continuous supply of water
The water supply will greatly assist hygiene through supply to toilets and wash basins; will ease food preparation and washing up; will assist in teaching eg in the science lab, art projects
There are two major risks that have been considered. First, that the borehole is not properly constructed and may collapse after a short while; mitigation through use of an experienced contractor, and checking of specification by qualified water engineer.
Second, that the water supply is short lived; mitigation through seeing the success of other boreholes in similar gound conditions in the area.
