Charity information: The Red Hen Project
North Cambridge is an area of long term deprivation identified by the Indices of Multiple Deprivation 2015. 7/10 lowest ranked Cambridge neighbourhoods are in North Cambridge, which also ranks in the bottom third nationally. One third of children in our community are living in poverty.
Our families live in low income households with complex issues, e.g. drug abuse, domestic violence or mental health issues, emotional and social difficulties, lone parenting and financial hardship.
Our project gives ownership to people to make lasting life changes, breaking the intergenerational cycle of deprivation. Families are enabled to develop support strategies including; improved parenting and life skills, confidence, reduced isolation and positive engagement with education, giving the community the capacity and resilience to tackle the roots of social problems at the earliest opportunity.
