KPC Youth & Community - Working for our Community

KPC wants to continue to support our local community - of all ages - through a range of activities and support to give them better chances in life. The funding would help us sustain and improve on what we offer, and increase the number of people who can benefit from what we offer

January 2018 - December 2018

  • Need

We are trying to help with sustaining the support and activities we offer. We live in a socially disadvantaged community with low income, high unemployment. We want to ensure those who could benefit from our services are not restricted by income, so that we can provide support for all ages through the range of what we offer, which is either free, subsidised or affordable to those who need it most. By ensuring the cost is not prohibitive we will benefit more of our community.

It will help reduce costs, encourage participation and uptake in the support we can offer. Realistically if we charge the "actual" cost of the service we provide this would prevent those who need it most accessing activities, support, childcare, holiday and evening open access provision. The funding from Big Give Xmas Challenge would help cover the "hidden" costs of the activities and support which are part of the true cost of this and mean that costs are too high for them.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    We support our local community

» Provide a range of support and activities for all age ranges within our local community - from Messy Play, through stages to support for unemployed

    What success will look like

By participation from our local community
    New activities/sessions
Feedback from those who use our centre
    Word of mouth recommendations
    Engagement by our local community

    Aim 2

To ensure that activities and support are free for those who need them most or subsidised/affordable

» The funding raised would enable activities to be subsidised or offered free to benefit those who need them most

    What success will look like

Numbers attending, benefiting from what we offer
Progression - eg: unemployed going into employment, training or volunteering

  • Impact

It will give community support, a friendly and accessible place for them to attend, and provide a range of support, friendship networks, reduced isolation, engagement from a range of community members - from mums with babies/toddlers, through to parents and children attending after school club, support for young people through open access youth provision, to support for those who are unemployed. This will provide better opportunities, demonstrated via feedback/employment and engagement

Risks would be that we don't achieve our target - this could mean that we are only able to offer reduced/limited community support.

We will continue to work on this via fundraising, grants etc., but this could jeopardise the future of some of what we offer to our community members

This will be done through a range of medium - including: Regular newsletters, Social Media, Press, letters, invites to our centre etc.

  • Background

We are based in Pyle, Nr Bridgend, South Wales

Many of those we work with live within Communities First Post Codes.

From the WIMD we know that many adults have low educational skills, there is high unemployment. Many of the families we work with have low incomes, and low expectations in life.

Our local community primarily - eg: Pyle, Kenfig Hill, Cornelly, Cefn Cribbwr - but we have a remit to work across County and surrounds

Age wise from baby/todder for our Messy Play Sessions up to around 65+ - who may participate in our exercise classes

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

We are a grass roots community organisation. We have been based in our community since 1998 - and know the issues faced. We have grown in what we offer over the years - and whilst initially focussed on just young people , realise the benefits now of working with parents also. We have many examples of working with multi-generations - who access us for different support/activities.
