NKF Patient Helpline
2 Million people in the UK have kidney problems, the NKF offers a patient Helpline that receives around 200 calls per week.
most calls are then supported by leaflets sent out in the post detailing the call subject - all of this is free of charge to the kidney patient or carer.
Charity information: National Kidney Federation
Many kidney patients and even carers feel alone, they do not understand their condition or they feel their old life before kidney disease is over and they have no future.
The NKF Helpline is there to answer the questions, point kidney patients and carers in the right direction and give them hope.
Help them understand their condition and show them life does go on and how they can manage their life with this dreadful disease.
To fund the Helpline for one year
Activities» To secure funding so the NKF can continue this vital service
The NKF will be able to continue to offer a free phone call line and send out medical leaflets free of charge.
The NKF will be able to update their 200 different leaflets on various subjects.
With extra funding the Helpline could expand with another member of staff taken on.
donors often don't understand how important a patient helpline like the NKF one is, its the only one in the UK and is a vital service in the Renal world.
The NKF has feedback from people who have used the Helpline and this shows how this service changes peoples life for the better.
Funding requests are normally via letters posted out or email but the charity is using social media more and more to get the message across.

NKF is a small but vital national charity, nearly forty years old, and still unique in several regards. We are the only UK support organisation run by kidney patients for kidney patients; we provide the only national Helpline dedicated solely to renal patients, their families and carers; and are the UK’s largest producer and distributor of kidney related medical information leaflets.
Kidney disease can affect anyone of any age, even from birth. There are currently two million people with early stage Chronic Kidney Disease in the UK, and a further 60,000 with end-stage – meaning they are either on Dialysis or have had a kidney transplant. 80% of our patients are over 55 year old and the ones that use the services of the charity the most.
The Charity NKF is the only national charity run by Kidney Patients for Kidney Patients. The NKF also run the only UK Helpline dedicated solely to patients with the condition.
