  • Need

    Need

Siamoono Primary School has 3 classroom blocks for 300 pupils– one being a temporary structure. The school cannot cater for the last 2 years of Primary School. Classes often conducted for multiple grades in the same classroom, which makes effective lesson delivery incredibly difficult for the teachers, and makes it very hard for pupils to focus on their work. Pupils have to walk over 6km to the nearest school for the last 2 years of Primary Education - which especially puts girls at risk.

    Solution

The school serves 350 households and 750 children live in the community. Out of 500 children of school going age in the community, only 284 are enrolled at the school. Improved facilities will positively impact enrolment rates as community members be assured their children will be getting a quality education at the school. Children will be able to finish their primary education at the school - preventing long journeys.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Improve Academic Attainment at the School

    Activities

» Providing a staffroom in the classroom block will give teachers at the school a place to plan their lessons.
» Adequate numbers of classrooms will ensure that different year groups are not taught in the same room. This will help children to focus properly.

By recording increases in the number of children passing their primary learning exams.

  • Impact

    Impact

Encourage the local community to send their children to school, and understand how vital education is. Through monitoring of enrolment figures over a multi- year period.

    Risk

    1. Ensuring building works are not impacted by the rains -
We have worked in the region since 2005 and are well equipped to manage this.
    2. Delay in Material Delivery -
We have a memorandum of understanding with our suppliers that all materials must be delivered within 14 days.

    Reporting

With a two page final donor report, sent via email or post. We also try to communicate about all projects on our social media channels.

"The nearest school that has grade 8 and 9 is very far away. It is dangerous for me to walk there by myself in the evening. Girls get attacked by older men on the road. I am scared to walk there by myself."
