Help us expand our award winning schools in Addis

The Ethiopian government has just set up a new Ministry of Quality Assurance that sets very high standards for all schools around the country. We run 3 award winning schools and need to upgrade and expand them to get more space, students and better facilities.

September 2017 - July 2018

  • Need

In order to renew the license for our 3 award winning schools and comply with new government regulations in Addis Ababa, we need to upgrade our school premises.
We can expand at the same time and take fee paying students in as well to become more sustainable.
    This means:
    1) we can educate more children in a quality focused way
    2) we upgrade our schools
    3) we comply to the new regulations
    4) expand our projects
    5) we become sustainable in a fast growing city and economy

By expanding and upgrading our current schools we can educate more children in a quality focused way and can become sustainable at the same time.
We are looking at premises big enough with all the necessary space and possibilities to run a fully fledged quality school with a bright future.
We have the staff, the experience and awards to scale this and need financial support to achieve this goal.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    Comply to new government regulations

» Get bigger premises and add better facilities such as a chemistry lab, a biology lab and a proper library with 5000 books.

    What success will look like

Once our new premises are set up we need to keep the quality of education as high as now in order to continue the academic successes we have been able to sustain for many years now

    Aim 2

    Become more sustainable

» We will expand in this process of having to upgrade and take in also fee paying students to get the schools self funded for the future.

    What success will look like

By getting the schools self funded by 2020, by taking in up to 50% of fee paying students.

  • Impact

We will have a school for 1000-1200 students, self funded and sustainable. We will try and keep our results as high as now:
    - Award winning school
    - 97% score above average results
    - Only 3% are below 65%
    - Our drop out rate is below 1%.
    - 100% parental involvement.
    - Extremely high student attendance rate
    - Low teacher absent rate

We need enough funding to get this project organised and are fund raising full time to make this happen. We have a very loyal funding base that have supported our projects for most of the past 10 years and get a lot of support from them. There is a small risk we cannot achieve our funding targets. The Ethiopian government set up new guidelines at the beginning of 2017 to be executed by September 2017, which does not allow for a lot of time. We hope to rise to the challenge.

We are used to reporting exact outcomes and outputs and have very high reporting standards. We are used to report in a professional manner to many foundations, banks and individuals.
We would set exact targets and report against them in whichever fashion necessary for the donor.
