New Day Centre Roof

Our Day Centre for the Blind urgently needs a new roof. The flat roof has begun to leak - we may have to close without notice if the damage gets worse. Our users rely on their visits to the day centre for companionship and entertainment - for many it is the only opportunity they have to get out.

  • Need

    Need

The roof is leaking causing damage to the underlying structure and the internal decoration. The health and safety of our visually impaired users is paramount - a serious leak would force us to shut. T

    Solution

The replacement roof will come with a guarantee for 25 years which will alleviate the concern that damage may dictate that we close for short term repairs. It will be insulated to new UK regulations which will make the day centre warmer in winter and cooler in summer. It should also help to reduce the charity's heating bills.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To prevent any further deterioration in the roof infrastructure and improve the insulation

    Activities

» New replacement roof - work to be done over the summer period during users holidays

    What success will look like

A warm hall with no leaks or damage caused by a leaking roof. Avoid unforeseen closures.

  • Impact

    Impact

Long term, with a new roof in place we can concentrate on working with our local area neighbourhood association to improve and enhance our immediate environment including redecoration, mosaic tile murals, flowers planters to engender pride and help reduce graffiti, littering and vandalism

    Risk

With service users away during the holiday period the contractors can work on the project with no fear of it impacting on anyone.

    Reporting

Donors will be informed through the local area newsletter and local Press.
