Need
Need
Tens of thousands of children could starve to death as famine, food and water shortages affect 22 million people in Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan and Somalia.
More than 3.5 million children are suffering from severe malnutrition. The hunger crisis is caused by drought, conflict and political instability and is forcing people to migrate into areas affected by conflict and putting children at huge risk of violence, exploitation and abuse.Solution
World Vision has a longstanding presence in all four countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan and Somalia, implementing humanitarian and development programming.
We are expanding our support to those affected by the East Africa Crisis to benefit 2.2 million people in the next six months. Our response will target the health and nutrition, child protection, livelihood, shelter, education and water and sanitation needs of the most vulnerable.

» Support treatment for malnourished children by providing nutrition food for families in need, and support access to essential primary healthcare.
» Support access to clean and safe water for drinking and other household use, and support access to safe and appropriate shelter.
» Provide protection services especially to vulnerable children and survivors of gender based violence.
» Help strengthen household and community livelihoods and resilience to disaster.
What success will look like
Our aim is to help children survive, thrive and return to school.

Impact
Impact
We will work to ensure families are healthy and thriving with enough to eat, clean water to drink and adequate shelter and healthcare. We will also work to ensure children are safe and that their families have the resources to look after them and recover from this crisis.
Risk
Some of the affected people are in areas which are difficult to access due to their remoteness and ongoing insecurity from armed groups. World Vision has experience of working successfully in remote rural areas through appropriate transport and supply chain management. Critically we also have plans in place to ensure our staff are protected. We also work closely with local leaders and other actors to make sure risks are monitored and addressed appropriately.
Reporting
We will include updates on our website www.worldvision.org.uk/our-work/emergency-response/. Six and twelve month reports are available upon request.
