  • Need

We need to prevent a crisis on a much larger scale. If we do not act now, many more people will die from starvation, lack of clean water and will become malnourished due to food insecurity

It will relieve the crisis, not solve it entirely, but we will be able to save lives and prevent more people dying from starvation, malnutrition and disease. We have staff and volunteers in all countries affected and access to supplies to support those affected without delay

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Access to clean water and hygiene education. Reduce risk of waterborne diseases.

» Volunteers deliver hygiene training through home visits, sanitation clubs, schools and food distribution sites.
» Provision of water tanks and water treatment chemicals
» Monitor treatment and storage of water through household surveys and household water quality tests

    What success will look like

Monitoring of beneficiaries, recording outbreaks of disease. Monitor treatment and storage of water through household surveys and household water quality tests

    Aim 2

    Distribution of relief supplies

    » Needs assessment
» households to be provided with monthly cash transfers to meet their food needs
    » Provision of supplementary foods
» Communicate through word of mouth location of food distribution sites and distribute relief supplies

    What success will look like

Develop and implement appropriate complaints and feedback mechanisms. Disburse cash using appropriate cash transfer delivery mechanism. Conduct post distribution monitoring

    Aim 3

Provide supplementary food for livestock to provide milk needed for human nourishment

» Prevention of migration of animals due to absence of adequate pasture
» Provision of supplementary food for livestock
» Animal healthcare and treatment of disease

    What success will look like

Low migration of livestock when provided with supplementary food. Increase of milk available to nourish families

  • Impact

As this is a major crisis, we can assume loss of life on a huge scale, should we not be able to instigate our project. The result will be a reduction in the loss of life to the families in the countries in which we are working. Malnutrition will be very much lower as we will be able to support more beneficiaries

Having no staff and volunteers to deliver the interventions needed. Not raising significant funds to put our plans into immediate action.
We are already training staff and volunteers as we have a Red Cross base in all countries affected. Therefore we understand the needs of those in crisis, along with the cultures of the countries affected. Conduct monthly internal coordination meetings with other involved departments such as health, nutrition, water and sanitation and food security

We can produce impact reports of funding being used in each affected country and our part in the provision of crisis relief
