FUN! ACTING CREATIVITY! DANCING JOY! SINGING
For Lewisham's children and families, a week of fun and creativity in the Summer Holidays is a lifeline.
July 2017 - August 2017
Charity information: Montage Theatre Arts
A lack of free or heavily subsidised but high quality activities for Lewisham's children and young people during the Summer Holidays. It's essential to have safe and creative spaces where they can go during the long summer months.
We offer three weeks of performing arts programmes, including dance, drama, mask making and singing, culminating in shows performed to family and friends. The teachers are experts in their fields/ West End professionals and create an environment where children can explore their creativity, build confidence and make new friends in a safe environment. For those awarded bursaries this will include free places and a daily nutritious lunch.
Funding 12 bursaries over three weeks and a minimum of 40 subsidised places to Summer Sing.
Activities» Oz - a week long programme of dance, drama and singing inspired by Wicked/The Wizard of Oz for three age groups with a final theatre performance
» Circle of Life - a week long programme of dance, drama, mask making and singing inspired by the Lion King with a final theatre performance
» Montage at the Movies - a week long programme of dance, drama and singing inspired by favourite movie musicals with a final theatre performance
What success will look like
Take up of 12 free and 40 subsidised places.
Parent and child feedback.
Converting those awarded bursary and concession places into members of our termtime programme (min 14)
A steady rise in our term time concession rate students. Our current concession rate is 22%. We would like this to rise to 25% by the end of 2017 and 30% by the end of 2018. The more that families who need it can take advantage of these opportunities for their children, the greater our impact in both individual lives and the community. We routinely see children doing things they never believed they possible, making new friends and blossoming in confidence.
The risk is lack of take up. We have dealt with this by planning a marketing campaign for the courses flagging scholarships and concession rates. However, we have also built ongoing relationships with Lewisham Social Services, Lewisham Young Carers and other local charities and schools who recommend suitable families to us.
Donors will receive a quarterly newsletter on the progress of the children including any or all of the following: case studies, photos, video, quotes from parents and children who have benefitted from the programme. Montage Parents receive monthly newsletters anyway.

Lewisham is one of the most deprived boroughs in the UK. With no big business to apply to for sponsorship and council funding being cut, arts provision for children and young people is becoming the province of those who can afford to pay. Montage has been working in the borough for almost 20 years and is a charity rather than a business with a long-standing commitment to offering a wide concession programme.
Children and young people in the most need of social networks, confidence building and a creative outlet.
On average 22% of Montage Theatre Arts attendees are from low-income families.
Currently approximately 50% of our participants are black or minority-ethnic in a borough where 43% of the population is black or ethnic minorities (BAME).
Montage has almost 20 years experience of providing dance, drama and singing classes to the community as well as an award-winning youth dance company, youth theatre company and Older People's programme. We have performed across the borough and London-wide including Saddlers Wells and the South Bank. Our experienced teachers include West End professionals and specialist Managers whose skillsets include SEN training, Health and Safety and First Aid qualifications.

Funds a day of fun and friendship
I referred a young person from a low income family who possibly may not have had the opportunity to attend other than through the funding. This empowered the young person beyond belief where his confidence blossomed and he has now become part of his school performance arts sessions.
