Stay & Play group for Children 0-5 years

disadvantaged families will have the opportunity to access a parent toddler stay & play group to improve health and develop developmental milestones through soft play & physical activities for children under 5 years old. This will benefit isolated families and provide a social network.

  • Need


    Disadvantaged families.
    Isolation- create a group were single parent families or English as a second language can come together and meet new people. prevention of obesity by keeping children active from an early age. provide a group that is financially accessible to low income families.
    understanding the importance of nutrition.


    our project will provide a safe and secure environment for families to come on a weekly basis. We would like to run a weekly group delivered by professional child care workers being on hand to encourage correct use of equipment and provide nutritional advice .
    we will work with local authority, libraries, health authorities and children centers to advertise the group who will promote to hard to reach families.
    providing nutritional advice to families. sign posting them to food banks in the area.

    provide a social group for disadvantaged families.


    » use Tweedway hall on Friday mornings for a 1 hour session of stay & play for parents and children under 5 years.

    registration forms.
    keep an attendance register.

    liaise with other proffesionals

    Aim 2

    encourage physical education in children under 5 years.


    » provide a range of equipment to promote fine & gross motor skills, using trikes bikes, push along toys, cause and effect , soft play equipment.
    » music & movement session delivered by a qualified dance teacher. using musical instruments .

    What success will look like

    monitor equipment usage during the session.
    on registration form a mini questionnaire on child's physical milestones achieved and re assess at the end of the program

    advice sessions on healthy eating.


    » work closely with NHS professionals to deliver advice sessions within the group on healthy eating.

    What success will look like

    games and quizzes covering questions on nutrition and healthy eating. giving out NHS leaflets in partnership with healthy start program.

  • Impact


    to make the local community aware of community groups and activities available to them that are held at Tweed way hall.
    we would like to group to continue after the year project and be run by parents and to be self sufficient.
    Through local advertising and sharing with current hall users and social media.
    healthier happier children and families. Exercise is proven to encourage happy hormones demonstrated through physical play.


    Not having enough toys and equipment to cater for influx of parents wanting to attend. - seek external grants to update toys and equipment.
    too many people wanting to attend - offer 30 spaces with first come first serve registration for entry. if demand is high offer a second group at an additional time.

  • Background


    Collier row, rise park, essex RM1 4AZ. Tweed way hall. London borough of Havering.
    we service harold hill and marks gate which are an area of deprivation for disadvantaged families.
    Havering has an increase in English as a second language with which we would like to bring together in the area.
    we have good local transport to access the hall from Romford, Dagenham, harold hill and the surrounding Essex areas.


    All families with children 0-5years.
    targeting single parent families, low income and English as a second language.

    Why Us?

    Tweed way hall community association and committee members are passionate and dedicated to the development of our future generation. We have a large hall to facilitate the project and dedicated staff members eager to start. similar groups are private business and expensive and our community would benefit for this project. we have good links with the local health service and children centers and qualified staff willing to run the project.
