July 2018 - August 2018
Charity information: Youthdirect
Children and young people from the ethnic minority community we serve are cooped up in the classroom all year with little access to physical activities due to cultural and economic constraints. Many struggle in school and some suffer from low self-esteem, mental health issues, ADHD and ASD. With too much spare time on their hands in the summer holidays these children are at high risk of antisocial behaviour; their parents are desperate for them to be gainfully occupied.
By providing two fun-filled weeks where we will run engaging and thought provoking activities along with enjoyable and relaxing trips that will combine to offer an excellent day camp for children and young people.
Children will have the opportunity to release their pent up energy in a safe environment and a productive way.
Our fantastic team of youth workers utilise this opportunity to instil the children with confidence and a fresh enthusiasm for their studies upon their return to school.

Members will gain an increased sense of self-esteem and personal resilience. This will surge forward into their daily life, where they’ll be willing to test new challenges and ask for help. This healthy frame of mind, along with their brushed up social skills, will greatly enhance performance both at school and outside, enabling them to reach their full potential. Staff observations and members questionnaires filled in at the end of the project will demonstrate changes that have taken place.

We take referrals from family support organisations. Our fees policy allows the small fee to be reduced or waivered in case of need.
Risk of accidents on trips. All staff are CRB checked. We do rigorous risk assessments and follow safety instructions of all sites visited. Children are given labels with emergency contact details.
Shortage of funding. We are doing thorough fundraising work to ensure that all necessary funding for the day camp is secured.

They come from families on low income living on benefits in overcrowded homes. Due to their financial restraints, they are commonly deprived of extra-curricular opportunities and are therefore unable to attend generic after school clubs or summer day camps.
