  • Need

There is plenty time on hand for youth after school, at weekends and during holidays, and as the local disadvantaged youth are unable to fill their time in a constructive manner due to difficult financial or emotional reasons, they tend to fall into bad company and become 'at-risk'. We are here to help these disadvantaged young people fill their time in a positively constructive manner.

My Cozy Haven is here to provide the local youngsters with many great opportunities for free so that they are able to utilize their free time gaining important life skills in a warm and positive atmosphere without the usual pressure found in the school system. We work with the local community and schools so that disadvantaged youth are directed to us and spend their after-school hours in a safe environment initiating greater emotional and physical health in these disaffected youth.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To help local disadvantaged youth fill their out of school time constructively.

» We provide a weekly club every Saturday afternoon with many physical activities and thought provoking discussions run by dedicated volunteers.
» A few times a year we offer a Breakfast Bash where young adults join together for a hearty healthy breakfast.
» Monthly we put on drama, singing and dancing classes that brings forth amazing theatrical results produced by the youth.
» Lead and succeed is an annual retreat/event featuring networking, recruiting, training and development of volunteers.

    What success will look like

When we have full club attendance of at least 60 regular users during the course of a regular week.

    Aim 2

Prevent local youth fall in with bad company and become 'at-risk'.

» Summer and/or Winter retreat for a few days during schools mid-term filled with action packed programs and activities plus healthy delicious meals.
» Mid-Term playscheme for children aged 3-12 keeping them occupied in a safe and happy environment filled with many physical activities and arts'n'craft

    What success will look like

Local schools will report fewer at risk youth in trouble. Less youth loitering the streets during school holidays.

  • Impact

Good preventative measures for children becoming 'at-risk' as we help disaffected youth learn to occupy themselves positively from a young age. Better relationships being built between young adults and their parents/friends/teachers. When we see that these disadvantaged youth eventually volunteer for our club in order to repay the community in a positive manner we know we have achieved success. Additionally we have open communication with local schools/parents to see if we are achieving our aims

Not having enough funding to cover the costs of the activities being provided.
We are constantly working on funding events and grant fundraising.

We will create and send an end of the year report.

  • Background

London Borough of Barnet is known as an affluent borough but as in every place there is a percent of disadvantaged families as seen in the Barnet JSNA 2015- ‘’Whilst Barnet is generally an affluent Borough, approximately 19% of children … (5,000 children) live in low income families, defined as those in receipt of Child Tax Credit and either on benefits (Income Support or Jobseekers allowance) or earning less than 60% of median the income.’’

We are aiming to reach the most disadvantaged youth in the area so that they will gain enormously.
Additionally the wider community will benefit from an area with reduced youngsters hanging around looking for trouble.
And volunteers will also gain by giving of themselves to these disadvantaged youth.
