BARK Appeal (Boarding And Rescue Kennels)
To build new eco friendly and sustainable kennels designed with the dogs welfare at heart.
February 2017 - February 2018
Charity information: Happy Landings Animal Shelter
Our old kennels are no longer fit for purpose. They leak, they have no access to outside area for dogs to choose themselves. It is a very old dark building.
New inside/outside areas. Large light kennels with underfloor heating. Insulated and easy clean areas better for dogs and staff.
Quiet room, medical room and lots more storage.
Designed with the welfare of the dogs uppermost.
To build new kennels putting the physical and mental welfare of dogs at it's core
Activities» Build the new kennels, when all funds are raised, to the highest specification as per the architects drawings and interior design brief
What success will look like
The health and happiness of rescue dogs and staff and volunteers working with them
User friendly both in terms of dogs and staff. Eco friendly and sustainable.
Reduced running costs. Stress free rescue dogs.
Not gaining sufficient funds to complete the kennels in one build. We want to start and finish in ne go rather than complete in stages.
Greater emphasis on fundraising. Engaging a project manager who is researching a variety of building specialists rather than one main contractor which has lowered the final cost of the build.
Individually by whichever means they have designated. Plus our website and facebook for regular updates.

We are based on a 5 acre site in the heart of Somerset countryside.
The community within a 30 mile radius of the shelter
We only work within a 30 mile radius of the site and yet we are full to capacity at all times and operate on a waiting list basis so we know the need is there. We estimate this last year has seen a 20% increase in animals needing to come into rescue.
