Yemen Crisis - Emergency Reponse
The Yemen conflict has resulted in 7,000 people killed, millions displaced from their homes, 19 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, and famine a possibility for millions. The IRC has operated in Yemen since 2012 and provides emergency medical supplies, nutrition and hygiene programs.
Depending on people's need, several months and potentially longer.

Need
According to the UN, nearly 19 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance and 10.3 million of which are in acute need.
Famine is a possibility for millions and treatable diseases are putting children, the chronically ill, the elderly and disabled, and pregnant and lactating mothers at particularly high risk of starvation and sickness.Solution
The IRC first began assisting people in Yemen in 2012 and continues to this day.
We provide health, nutrition, water, hygiene, and sanitation services to more than a quarter-million people; delivering essential drugs and medical supplies to hospitals; and calling on the international community to help achieve a lasting peace. -

Background
Location
The IRC operates across Yemen.
In particular in the Northern governorates of Abyan, Lahij, Al Dhalea’a, Aden, Shabwa, Amanat Al Asima, and Sana’a.
In the South the IRC’s humanitarian intervention and multi-sector program is one of the largest in Yemen, especially in the five governorates in the south where our Aden Field Office is located.Beneficiaries
Two thirds of the population (19 million out of 27 million) are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

Why Us?
The IRC has been assisting people in Yemen since 2012.
In 2015 the IRC and our partner organisations in Yemen provided 813,131 people with access to primary and reproductive health care, 51,356 people with access to clean drinking water and sanitation, and 2,049 children under 5 with treatment for acute malnutrition.
