All year grass for all year play.
For Hand in Hand Nursery, Dumpton Lane, Ramsgate to provide an all year round play experience for our nursery children - enabling them to consistently experience play in all weathers and promote a healthy lifestyle
January 2017 - December 2016
Thanet Early Years Project
The nursery garden has grassed areas which in the wet weather and wintery months become very muddy and prevent the children from playing outdoors. Children free-flow between the garden and nursery room during their session but the state of the ground in winter prevents this play. Children’s clothes become damaged when playing outside on this poor surface, and as we are a nursery setting in an area of high socio-economic deprivation, parents may not be able to afford to replace these items.
We want to install artificial grass over the affected areas, and have obtained quotations for this work. It is essential that the work is undertaken by a professional tradesperson to ensure the quality of the work, that the installation is a long term benefit to the setting, and that all health and safety aspects of this work are covered.
To install an artificial grass surface in the affected area at the earliest opportunity.
Activities» Obtain quotes from professional landscaping companies in the local area.
» Undertake fundraising events in the nursery setting to involve parents/carers in this project.
» Apply for funding from other local and national sources to reach our target goal.
» Compare quotes and commission contractor who in our opinion will provide the best result at a competitive price.
Children will have an enhanced free flow facility and the opportunity to play in this area all year round. There will be no need to restrict free flow in bad weather.
British Heart Foundation EARLY YEARS GUIDLINES

Children of pre-school age who are capable of walking unaided should be physically active daily for at least 180 minutes, spread throughout the day. All under fives should minimise the amount of time spent being sedentary (being restrained or sitting) for extended periods.
We aim to provide all children with the opportnity to exercise through play.
We will attempt to reduce any risk of installing this new surface by using a professional contractor and purchasing a quality product suitable for the location.
We plan to plot the progress of this project by providing an update on our website www.thanetearlyyears.org , on our facebook page and in the regular newsletter which is provided for parents/carers.

Hand in Hand Nursery is part of the Thanet Early Years Project, a local childcare charity nbr 1100011. Situated in Ramsgate, in an area of high socio-economic deprivation, we have provided quality affordable childcare to local families for 10 years on this site. As tenants in a children's centre, and we are responsible for maintaining our own areas of the centre.
All the children currently using our nursery, and the children who attend in the future. They will be allowed to play freely and indulge in physical activity and exercise in an outdoor situation. Many children live in flats or residences without a garden and this may be the only opportunity they have to play outside. Staff will be able to offer exiting play opportunities to these children and enhance their wellbeing.
Parents will have less dirty washing after nursery!
As an established local nursery setting, we wish to offer the best environment to our children and staff. We feel that installing this all weather surface for our setting will enhance the opportunities for children attending our nursery and allow instant access to play all year round.
