Project information

Sickle cell - Behind closed doors

Sickle cell anaemia is a blood disorder that mainly affects the Afro/Caribbean communities.
Many have heard about it but don't know much about it because they see people when they are well enough to be seen.
No one knows or sees the anguish, pain and hospitalisations that goes on behind closed doors

January 2017 - December 2017

  • Need

The main problem is the ignorance surrounding Sickle cell anaemia.
As a charity that has worked with children, young people and the families over the past 11 years, we find that young people are being hindered to share their illness and access care and support that they need.

By letting people understand what goes on behind closed doors, it will give a better understanding into the isolation, fears, anxieties, hospitalisations that these young people and their families face.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To share information about the life of those living with Sickle cell anaemia.

» Create a film of sickle cell - behind closed doors
» Document the film and form evidence for further reserach

    What success will look like

We will approach the Community channel to air the findings.

  • Impact

Many stakeholders involved in children's and young peoples lives will have better understanding of Sickle cell and will help to improve services in education, the community and in Health and social care.

This will be demonstrated through films that will be sown during outreach work with various stakeholders.

The risk is mainly of families leaving the project.

We aim to have the project over subscribed to ensure there is a good quota that will ensure we have good data output.

We will report through the Project report, Newsletter, Annual review and report.
