We are celebrating 10 years of survival as a self help/user-led mental health organisation. Now we want to continue to thrive! We want to reach over 6000 individuals and groups, connecting and communication and campaigning for better support and services.

  • Need


    Isolation - Our members continually tell us that being connected and knowing an organisation is there for them helps them combat feelings of isolation and provides information about local support and opportunities for community inclusion and involvement for influencing. We want to continue to thrive, growing as a network and developing our capacity to communicate and connect both face-to-face and digitally.


    We will develop our weekly ebulletin and online news service which both provide the widest range of opportunities and news for people who identify as living with mental distress or diagnosis. We will continue to link individuals and groups so they can connect, communicate and share. By developing our digital communication channels we will improve our impact and reach and with more local events and presence we will help strengthen the local networks.

  • Impact


    Over 6000 individuals and groups will feel more connected.
    The gap between the rhetoric and reality will lessen. We will challenge policy makers who talk about community based asset development (ABCD) and co-production but do not invest in it (time or resources).
    Success will be our survival against adversity, at a time when many other local and national service user led groups are disappearing and we are therefore able to save the demise of many of our member groups.


    NSUN has a risk management strategy that is reviewed every two months. Currently the political situation is affecting both individuals and voluntary sector groups. We keep abreast of all current developments and inform our members.
    Members will only join NSUN if there's value in being a member so we will continue to ask for feedback about what we do and what we achieve through the network.


    We will report using a range of formats and media that meet the respective requirements of donors.
    We have an Evaluation Framework based on the Theory of Change and we collate information about what we do and the changes we've effected on a quarterly basis so we can provide regular updates.

    Our main office is in London but our work is across England. We have started to develop stronger local networks which include London and Newcastle.


    Mainly people who identify as living with mental distress or diagnosis.
    Others include people who are carers and or workers in the health and community sector.
